Tap water is not usually treated as reliably drinkable, so travelers commonly buy sealed bottled water or boil and filter water before drinking. In Paramaribo and other towns, people may use filtered or boiled water at home, and in rural areas or along the interior it is especially wise to avoid untreated water because supply quality can vary.
