Physical Touch Etiquette in Spain

Physical touch is fairly common in Spain, so friends and acquaintances often greet with a kiss on each cheek, a hug, or a hand on the arm, and standing a bit closer than in more reserved cultures is normal. Among close friends and family, warm embraces and cheek kisses are routine, though in formal settings or with people you do not know well, a handshake is still the safer first move.
