Gender roles are often more traditional in public and family life, so men are commonly expected to take the lead in formal interactions while women may be addressed more cautiously in conservative settings. In cities and among younger people these expectations are changing, but in many communities modest dress, respectful greetings, and avoiding overly familiar behavior with the opposite sex still matter.
