In Mali, many public and roadside toilets are basic squat latrines, so travelers should carry their own tissue or water for washing and expect to pay a small fee at bus stations, markets, or restaurants. In homes and some guesthouses, a bucket or jug may be used for cleaning instead of toilet paper, and in more traditional settings you may be expected to leave the area tidy and avoid wasting water.
