Alcohol Etiquette in Mali

Alcohol is not part of everyday social life for many Malians, especially in Muslim communities, so a traveler should avoid offering it casually and should only drink discreetly in places where it is clearly served. In Bamako and some hotels or expatriate venues it is available, but public drunkenness or drinking in conservative settings can be seen as disrespectful, and during Ramadan many people abstain entirely.
