Physical touch between unrelated men and women is usually kept very limited in Jordan, so wait for the other person to initiate a handshake and avoid hugs, cheek kisses, or casual touching unless you know the relationship is close. Among same-sex friends and relatives, greetings can be warmer and may include handshakes, cheek kisses, or a hand on the shoulder, but public displays of affection are still generally restrained.
