Recycling Etiquette in Indonesia

Recycling is still unevenly practiced in Indonesia, so travelers should not assume that households, cafés, or public spaces separate waste consistently unless a bin is clearly labeled. In larger cities and some neighborhoods, people may sort plastics, cans, and paper through local waste banks called bank sampah, but in many places trash is still mixed and informal collectors handle much of the recovery.
