Being on time is expected for business meetings, appointments, and most social plans in the United States, and arriving more than a few minutes late without warning is often seen as disrespectful. For casual gatherings there is usually a little flexibility, but if you are delayed it is normal to text or call ahead rather than simply showing up late.
