Physical Touch Etiquette in Senegal

Physical touch is usually warm but restrained in public: men often greet each other with a handshake, sometimes followed by a light touch on the forearm or shoulder, while close friends of the same sex may walk arm in arm. Public affection between men and women is generally kept modest, and in more traditional or religious settings people avoid prolonged hugging or kissing outside the family.
