Bills are often settled in cash and it is normal to pay promptly when the amount is agreed, especially in smaller shops, markets, and informal services. In homes and social settings, one person may cover the bill first and others settle up later, while in restaurants and hotels card payment is more common but still not universal, so carrying enough cash is practical.
