Swearing Etiquette in Sao Tome and Principe

Swearing is generally kept private and low-key in São Tomé and Príncipe, especially in front of elders, women, and in formal settings, where blunt profanity can come across as rude or disrespectful. In everyday conversation people may use mild teasing or expressive Creole phrases among friends, but public outbursts or insulting language are frowned on and can quickly escalate tensions in close-knit communities.
