Physical Touch Etiquette in Kenya

Physical touch is usually reserved for close friends and family, so keep greetings light with a handshake and avoid casual hugging, back-slapping, or touching someone of the opposite sex unless they initiate it. In more conservative or rural settings, public displays of affection are especially frowned on, while among younger urban Kenyans a brief friendly touch may be more acceptable once rapport is established.
