LGBTQ Etiquette in Kazakhstan

Public LGBTQ expression is generally kept discreet in Kazakhstan, especially outside major cities, because many people hold conservative social views and open displays can draw unwanted attention or hostility. In Almaty and Astana there is a small visible community and some private venues or events, but same-sex relationships are not widely accepted in everyday life and travelers are safest avoiding public affection or political discussion about the topic.
