Gender Norms Etiquette in Kazakhstan

Public life in Kazakhstan is fairly conservative about gender roles, so travelers should expect men to often take the lead in formal interactions and women to dress and behave modestly in more traditional settings. In cities the norms are more relaxed, but in rural areas and among older people it is still common to see stronger expectations around family roles, chivalry, and avoiding overly familiar behavior between unrelated men and women.
