Smoking is generally tolerated in public outdoor areas and many bars or cafés, but you should avoid lighting up in enclosed public spaces, offices, and on public transport unless a designated smoking area is clearly provided. In Abidjan and other cities, people tend to be pragmatic rather than strict about it, yet asking before smoking near others is still the polite norm, especially around elders or in family settings.
