Drinking Water Etiquette in Iceland

Tap water is safe and excellent to drink throughout Iceland, so locals routinely fill bottles from the faucet and expect visitors to do the same. In restaurants and hotels, asking for tap water is normal and usually preferred over buying bottled water, though in some geothermal areas the hot water can smell faintly of sulfur and is not meant for drinking.
