Gift Giving Etiquette in France

Bring a small, thoughtful gift when invited to someone’s home, such as flowers, chocolates, or a good bottle of wine, but avoid chrysanthemums and red carnations because they are associated with funerals or bad luck. Gifts are usually opened later rather than in front of the giver, and if you are invited for a meal, a dessert or wine is more appropriate than something overly expensive or flashy.
