Gender Norms Etiquette in Ecuador

Public life in Ecuador is fairly traditional, so travelers should expect men to often take the lead in formal interactions and women to be treated with more deference in conservative settings, especially outside the biggest cities. In Quito, Guayaquil, and tourist areas these roles are less rigid, but older generations and rural communities may still prefer modest dress, polite greetings, and clearly respectful behavior between men and women.
