People in Colombia generally stand and sit closer than many North American or Northern European visitors expect, so a bit of physical proximity is normal in conversation, greetings, and crowded public places. Friends and family often greet with a handshake, hug, or cheek kiss, and stepping back too much can read as cold or unfriendly, especially in more social settings.
