Public life is still fairly traditional, so men are often expected to take the lead in formal interactions and women may be greeted more cautiously at first, especially in older or rural settings. In cities the norm is much more relaxed and mixed-gender socializing is common, but older family expectations and visible respect for elders still shape how people dress, speak, and behave in public.
