Alcohol is available only in licensed hotels, restaurants, clubs, and a few specialist shops, so visitors should drink discreetly and never in public spaces. Bahrain is relatively more relaxed than some neighbors, but public intoxication, drinking outside approved venues, or bringing alcohol into conservative areas can still cause offense or legal trouble.
