Personal Space Etiquette in Tunisia

Personal space is generally smaller in Tunisia than many visitors from Northern Europe or North America expect, so brief proximity, light touches on the arm, and standing closer in conversation are normal rather than intrusive. In crowded markets, family settings, and cafés, people may sit or stand quite near each other, but it is still polite to avoid unnecessary physical contact with the opposite sex unless the other person initiates it.
