Photography is generally fine in public places, but you should always ask before taking close-up photos of people, shopkeepers, or anyone in a private setting, and avoid photographing military sites, border facilities, or clearly marked restricted areas. In churches, museums, and on trains or cable cars, rules can be stricter and flash or tripods may be banned, so look for signs and follow staff instructions, especially in quieter Alpine villages where people value discretion.
