Personal Space Etiquette in South Korea

People in South Korea generally stand and sit closer together than many Western visitors expect, especially on public transport, in busy streets, and in crowded restaurants, so brief accidental contact is usually ignored rather than apologized for repeatedly. In more formal or first-time interactions, keep a respectful distance and avoid touching, but once people know each other it is normal to be physically closer in conversation and to move efficiently through shared spaces.
