Public displays of affection are generally avoided in Somalia, so holding hands, hugging, or kissing in public can draw disapproval, especially outside close family settings. In more conservative areas and among older generations, even casual physical contact between unrelated men and women is kept minimal, while same-sex friends may sometimes walk together or hold hands without romantic meaning.
