Keep eye contact moderate and respectful rather than prolonged, especially with elders, religious figures, or people you do not know well. In many Somali settings, a brief glance and then looking away is more comfortable, and among some conservative Muslims, especially between unrelated men and women, sustained eye contact can feel too direct or flirtatious.
