Romanians usually keep relationships fairly private at first, so it is normal to be introduced to friends and family only after a couple has become serious. Public displays of affection are generally accepted in cities, but in smaller towns and among older people a more reserved style is still common, and meeting the parents can be an important sign that the relationship is becoming official.
