People in the Philippines are generally comfortable standing or sitting fairly close, so a bit less personal space than in many Western countries is normal in conversations, queues, and crowded transport. In family settings and among friends, light touching, guiding by the arm, or sharing seats is common, while in formal situations people still appreciate polite distance and avoiding obvious staring or blocking someone’s way.
