Meat Etiquette in Papua New Guinea

Meat is often reserved for special occasions rather than eaten every day, especially in rural areas where pork, chicken, and sometimes game are served at feasts, weddings, and community gatherings. In many places the most traditional meat-centered meal is a mumu, where meat is cooked with vegetables and starches in an earth oven, and sharing the food is part of the social ritual.
