Physical Touch Etiquette in Panama

Physical touch is fairly common in Panama, especially among friends and acquaintances, so a light handshake, a pat on the shoulder, or a brief cheek kiss is normal once people are comfortable. In more formal settings people still start with a handshake, but warm, close body language is generally read as friendly rather than intrusive, while overly stiff distance can seem cold.
