Public displays of affection are usually kept very modest in Micronesia, so holding hands is generally fine but kissing, hugging, or lingering touch in public can draw uncomfortable attention, especially in villages and around elders. Social life is still strongly shaped by family and church values, and on many islands people dress and behave conservatively in public, so couples are best off being discreet.
