Dining Etiquette in Micronesia

Dining is usually relaxed and communal, so wait to be invited to start eating and accept food with your right hand or both hands if it is offered directly. In many islands, sharing a meal of fish, taro, breadfruit, or coconut-based dishes is a sign of hospitality, and at family gatherings or village events it is polite to leave a little food unless you are clearly encouraged to finish everything.
