Swearing Etiquette in Libya

Public swearing is generally frowned upon in Libya, especially in front of elders, women, or in formal settings, and it can quickly be taken as a sign of disrespect or bad upbringing. In everyday conversation people may still use strong language among close male friends, but travelers should keep speech restrained and avoid insulting religion, family honor, or tribal identity, which are especially sensitive topics.
