Use formal French-style address with
Monsieur,
Madame, or
Mademoiselle plus the person’s surname until invited to use first names, especially in business, government, and with elders. In everyday conversation people may also use respectful kinship terms or local-language greetings, and a warm handshake is common before moving to more familiar speech.
