People in Trinidad and Tobago are generally comfortable with closer conversational distance than in North America or northern Europe, so standing a bit nearer, light touches on the arm, and friendly greetings are normal rather than intrusive. In crowded minibuses, markets, and lively social settings, personal space shrinks further, but in formal or first-time interactions it is still polite to avoid crowding someone and to wait for a clear invitation before becoming physically familiar.
