Social Hierarchy Etiquette in Moldova

People usually show respect to elders, teachers, officials, and anyone in a visibly higher-status role by using formal address, waiting their turn, and avoiding blunt disagreement in public. Moldova still carries a fairly traditional, post-Soviet respect for rank and age, so in villages and family settings the oldest person often speaks first and is deferred to, while in cities the style is softer but still noticeably polite and hierarchical.
