Mauritius is generally safe for visitors, but you should still keep valuables out of sight, use hotel safes, and be cautious with bags and phones in crowded markets, beaches, and bus stations where opportunistic theft can happen. At night, stick to well-lit areas and licensed taxis, and note that while violent crime is uncommon, petty theft and occasional scams are the main practical concerns for travelers.
