Being a little late is often tolerated in Italy for social plans, especially dinners and informal gatherings, but for business meetings, reservations, and official appointments you should still aim to arrive on time. In many places the rhythm is more relaxed than in northern Europe, yet showing up very late without warning can still be taken as rude, so a quick message if you are delayed is appreciated.
