Personal Space Etiquette in Fiji

People in Fiji are generally comfortable with closer physical proximity than many Western visitors expect, so standing a little nearer in conversation or on crowded transport is normal rather than intrusive. In villages and formal settings, however, it is polite to keep a respectful, calm demeanor and avoid sudden touch unless you are invited, especially when greeting elders or entering a home.
