Swearing is generally tolerated in casual conversation in Belgium, but it is best kept light and avoided in formal settings, around strangers, or in mixed company. Flemish and French speakers both use plenty of everyday expletives, yet direct insults or loud profanity in public can still come across as rude and unnecessarily confrontational.
