Ask before photographing people, especially in villages, markets, or during church services, because many locals consider it intrusive unless you have clearly made eye contact and received permission. It is usually fine to take pictures of beaches, colonial buildings, and public scenery, but be discreet around private homes, fishing boats, and any event where people are dressed for a religious or festive occasion.
