Walking is the normal way to get around the Vatican area, and visitors should expect very limited private car access, with taxis usually dropping people at the perimeter rather than inside the city-state. For longer trips, use Rome’s buses, metro, or a prearranged Vatican shuttle or official vehicle if you are attending an event, since the Holy See is compact and heavily controlled for security and pedestrian flow.
