Recycling is not yet a strong everyday norm in Guyana, so travelers should not expect the kind of widespread curbside sorting or bottle-return system found in many larger cities. In Georgetown and other urban areas, some hotels, supermarkets, and NGOs may separate plastics, glass, and paper, but outside those pockets most waste is still mixed, so it is best to carry your recyclables until you find a designated collection point.
